From Comfortable Living to Urban Survival

When the power and water go out; when emergency services can’t get to you; when streets are swarming with mobs of angry and confused people; what are you going to do?  Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and civil unrest are all potential disasters that can turn a comfortable urban living situation into a desperate attempt to survive.  Our course will teach you some of the tools you will need to adapt to your new environment and survive until emergency services and order have been restored.  We cover: shelter; water; food; heat; signaling; movement; and defensive/offensive techniques to help keep you safe.

It’s weird but you never think about this stuff really happening until it is too late. I was impressed by the professionalism and innovation in the course. Not only did they give me some great instruction, but they were able to help me figure out what some of my next steps could be to prepare.

Join us for this course and learn different techniques that you can incorporate to keep yourself safe until help arrives.  This course will include both lecture and lots of hands-on instruction and will cover some of the psychology behind IMCI as well as the latest governmental and first responder-recommended skills that you can use both defensively and offensively to help ensure your survival.

Move as though your life depended on it

Where will you be when disaster strikes? What choices do you make to evade pursuit?  Chances are good that you may need to move through the environment in order to reach a safe location.  This course will teach you the fundamental philosophies of movement as they relate to a survival situation.  We cover: awareness considerations; assessment considerations; energy conservation; moving through mobs; moving around obstacles; using your environment to your advantage; evasive maneuvering; pursuit of others; and, effective stretches/exercises to help your movement.

The Survival Movement Class was a blast. It was great exercise and gave some basic, common-sense, and easy to remember instruction about how to handle mobs of people or how to move to avoid notice or capture. Cheers to you!

When 911 is too far away

Come spend two days of extremely hands-on training in wilderness first aid (WFA) with us during our nationally-recognized certification course. WFA is different from standard first aid in that:

  • It can require extended care (24hrs+)
  • It can require you to improvise and create life-saving gear from your camping equipment and/or surroundings
  • It can require you to take exposure measures (care for the patient's needs in terms of warmth and cooling) into account
  • Training is very hands-on and involves many realistic-seeming simulations
  • Students perform a much higher level of medical intervention (i.e. students will learn to set certain dislocated joints, close wounds, and more)

Upon completion of this two day/16+ hour course, students earn a nationally-accepted certification from the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) - the world's largest private EMS training provider.

“I have taken numerous first aid courses including a 4 day wilderness first aid course in the past. STSC’s Wilderness First Aid was, without question, the most comprehensive course on the subject I have ever taken.”

Healing with wild plants

"Apothecary" is an ancient term for those who produce healing remedies from raw materials. In times of old, local healers would go to the apothecary to obtain the healing "potions" they gave to their patients. This course takes you far beyond theory and deep into the world of plant processing. We will turn natural plants, oils, waxes, and more into a wide array of healing potions. You will make your own natural remedies and take them home at the end of the course.

*This course is essential if you wish to move beyond survival by learning to live off of the land.

ON THIS COURSE YOU GET TRAINING WITH:

  • Making your own healing balm/lotion
  • Making a medicinal poultice/plaster
  • Brewing a medicinal tea
  • Making a disinfecting rinse (oral and wounds)
  • Learning to harvest and "cure" wild herbs aka "wildcrafting"
To my knowledge there is no other school survival school in the nation that compares to STSC. As a student and a teacher myself I can always appreciate finding someone who actually knows something and can back it up with experience and intelligence.
